What type of asbestos survey do I need?
Let’s start with types of surveys. There are two options when it comes to choosing type of an asbestos survey.
Asbestos management survey- non intrusive. It is frequently requested by property buyers in order to get general idea of possible asbestos presence in the property they are about to purchase or duty holders of non domestic properties to enable prepare management plan. Damage is minimal but sampling points might be visible.
Asbestos refurbishment and demolition survey- as name suggests, it usually requested prior any demolition of refurbishment works. This type of survey is very intrusive and is worth noting that property will sustain significant cosmetic damage. This inspection can target specific area chosen by client to avoid unnecessary destruction.
I am only concerned about specific item. Do I need full survey?
No. You can request a sample collection of one or more items without full survey.
How long does an Asbestos survey take?
It depends on size of the property and amount of suspect materials that require sampling. An asbestos management survey to standard three bedroom house will most likely take no more than 1.5-2.5 hours. Report is usually ready within 48 hours but could take up to five working days.
Can I be present during the survey?
During management or targeted R&D surveys you can be inside the building. We only ask you to leave room that is currently being surveyed for your own safety.
How much does an Asbestos survey cost?
Unfortunately there are to many variables involved to answer this question accurately. Management survey of an average three bedroom house will cost £200-300.
When requesting a quote please include the following information:
- Type of the property
- Size of the property(number of all rooms including bathrooms, bedrooms, cupboards, garages etc.)
- Type of survey required( asbestos management, refurbishment or demolition survey)
- If known, age of the property
- Existing floor plans(normally applies to larger commercial buildings)
